Theatre Kitchen

The boiling pot for "cooks" and "ingredients" from Theatre Universe.

Of course we have all grown up with the reality that it is not enough to merely grow as artists and develop our craft. We must also search constantly for the means of production. We must deal with the daily issues of self-preservation--food, shelter and the like. In addition, we must pursue the finances necessary to create the art that burns inside of us.

The world of "day jobs" is so deeply ingrained in theatre, that it is said the only way to attract a waiter in a New York restaurant is to shout, "ACTOR." That is how individual artists survive and pay for basic needs plus ongoing training, photos, and all the other tools of the trade.

What about the artist who wishes to produce works on a larger scale? The question is not a new one. Artists have been funded by patrons for centuries. Wealthy families and individuals have kept the arts alive through a continuing cycle of dark ages and ages of enlightenment. Corporate foundations and government granting bodies have taken on the role of patrons in our modern ages.

Where am I heading with this? OK, I will skip the rhetoric and move towards my point.

I am NOT looking for a patron. I am looking for 1,000 or more patrons!! I have a piece of work that is ready to be produced. I have spent close to a decade building it, shaping it, and watching it grow. I will tell you about it and send you to look at a website about it. I will answer any questions you have about it. Then I want you to join the 1,000 patrons who give a minimum of $50 (U.S.) to help a fellow artist attain the means of production.

Leaden Skies is a work of physical theatre that uses text, choreography, song, sound...and more. My visions are shaped by my many decades in theatre, by the work of masters such as Brecht, Grotowski, and others, as well as by the world history I have witnessed and been moved by. Audiences who have seen staged readings or segments of the theatre piece have been extremely enthusiastic. That's how I know the work is ready to be mounted for a longer run.

I am actively gathering the funds needed to pay actors, to rent a theatre, to rent rehearsal space, to tell the public about the work, Now I am reaching out in all directions for assistance. Go to http://www.leaden-skies.com to learn about the work. Look at the page titled "Participation" to find out how to contribute.

Thank You
